"Every emotion hides a user goal / need / value"

Goal

To identify a dilemma associated with Tinder application for users between the age group of 18 to 30 years old who recently moved to a new city and redesign the application to overcome the dilemma.

User Research

Identified the target group and carried out user research with 7 participants to find out what participants think about the application about different perspectives of the application. The users in no way were limited to their opinion and engaged in “think aloud” session.

The emotion capture cards were used to write down users opinions about the sections of the app and the associated emotion in a structured format. Later, these emotion capture cards were categorised based on similar user opinions and resulted in a prominent dilemma users faced, i.e. Privacy vs Authenticity.

Storyboard

Carried out multiple user scenarios to understand how the application would be used and resulted in design decisions, like a user would only see another user on the application if they have crossed path in real life, the users can choose locations they are comfortable to get socialise in and appear on the application and more.

The Design and User Review

The final design decisions were based on data collected through the initial Emotion Capture Cards followed by the multiple user scenarios. A corporative user evaluation was carried out with seven participants to collected data on the new design.

We found that four participants thought that the redesigned application does provide a better experience for authenticity and privacy. The crossing path gave a sense authenticity and the garden grows as users talk provided sense of privacy.
